At times, people find that they may no longer be safe in their own countries, for different reasons, such as (but not limited to):

  • Political opinions or beliefs that differ from those of their state
  • Membership in a particular social or political group
  • Religion
  • Sexual orientation
  • Being women with more liberal outlooks, or who may have caused “dishonour” to their families or society

A solution to escape unjust detainment or death in their countries is to apply for asylum, which is an ancient juridical concept where an individual persecuted by their own country was able to seek the protection by another sovereign nation or foreign country. Today, if an individual has a convincing case with solid proof that they have reason to fear for their lives, they may seek asylum in different countries.

Insan has successfully been able to support several people, mostly activists, whose lives were under threat, by processing their asylum cases. They now reside in countries where they are safe.
